Juneteenth Freedom Day Recognition!

Join us for the official start of the Lansing Juneteenth Celebration Weekend. Our keynote speaker is the honorable Michigan Supreme Court Justice Kyra Harris Bolden.

A highlight of the evening will be the announcement of the winners of the Mr. Cordell Henderson Essay Competition & Scholarship Program.  Additionally, the ceremony will include talented community performers and presenters.

AFRICAN AMERICAN

PARADE

 

The parade will take place on Saturday, June 17 and will kick off at 11:00 am. The starting point is J.W. Sexton High School, 102 S. McPherson Avenue, Lansing, MI .
 

The 2023 Grand Marshals are Mr. Alan Haller and Mr. James E. Bibbs.  Visit the PARADE page to learn more about our grand marshals and to sign up to participate in the parade.

The Annual Juneteenth Community Ballgame 

Join us for this fun community event! The annual softball game will be played on Saturday, June 10 at Benjamin Davis Park from 2pm - 4pm.  In addition to the friendly rivalry of the game, there will be a tribute the Negro Leagues.

THE 2022 JUNETEENTH FREEDOM FESTIVAL

Friday & Saturday, June 17 & 18

St. Joseph Park in Lansing!


   On Friday evening, the Freedom Festival activities take place from 4pm-8pm and is family night! “Juneteenth Where the Reunion Begins” is our theme! The Village Market showcasing food and merchant vendors, along with public service exhibitors. Music by DJ Rob Newsome and Hustle Line dancing. Calling all chess and checker players to resume our annual gathering! 


   Saturday, the day begins at 11:00 a.m. with the African American Parade at the J.W. Sexton High School Front entrance and ends at the St. Joseph (St. Joe) Park to continue the Outdoor Freedom Festival. The festival kicks off at 12 noon and runs until dusk and features a Health Fair, Juneteenth/NAACP Job Fair, Art Form Exhibits, merchants and food vendors along with children's activities and musical entertainment.

The 2022 parade will take place on Saturday, June 18 and will kick off at 11:00 am. The starting point is J.W. Sexton High School, 102 S. McPherson Avenue, Lansing, MI .
 

We have great plans and look forward to the annual Lansing Juneteenth Celebration and recognition of "Juneteenth Day" as a state of Michigan holiday and a national holiday.
